Film and graphic novel Reviews: The Scarlet Pimpernel (1934) and The Jellyfish

Albion Magazine just published my short essay about The Scarlet Pimpernel, the classic film adaptation from 1934, starring iconic film stars of the 1930s Leslie Howard and Merle Oberon.

This film is a swash-buckling good time, with its action-packed plot centred on the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror, and its comedic use of (possibly authentic?) 18th-century men fashion. And if that review has you sold, then good news: it’s also currently free to watch on Youtube.

In case you missed it, I also reviewed the recent graphic novel The Jellyfish, by Montréal-based creator Boum, over on the Metapsychosis website.

With luminous artwork, this graphic novel tells a moving story of a young person navigating independence with encroaching vision loss.
